Jon Martin Brauti
After having worked as a typographer, Jon Martin Brauti started to study in Examen philosophicum (a half-year introduction to philosophy) and then linguistics at the University of Oslo. He was also a student at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., USA for one year (1989-90) in order to learn more English and American Sign Linguistics.
In 1993-1994, he worked as Research Assistant on the International Signs project at the Centre of Deaf Studies, University of Bristol, Great Britain. He was co-author of "Sign Language Research 1994", and also an author of "Grenseløs verden" (Unlimited World), published in 2006.
In 2006, he became President of Norwegian Deaf History Society, and in 2009 became a DHI Bureau Member-at-Large. He worked as lecturer/teacher in the field of Deaf culture and history at Ål Folk High School of the Deaf from 1994 to 2012.
Out of his personal interest, he has been conducting a research project "Deaf Migration from Norway to North America" for many years.
