Brief description (personal, work, education, associations, interests):

After having worked as a typographer, I started to study in Examen philosophicum (a half-year introduction to philosophy) and then linguistics at the University of Oslo. I was also a student at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., USA for one year (1989-90) in order to learn more English and American Sign Linguistics.

In 1993-94 I worked as Research Assistant in the project of International Signs at Centre of Deaf Studies, University of Bristol, Britain. I was co-author of "Sign Language Research 1994", and also an author of "Grenseløs verden" (Unlimited World), published in 2006.

From 2006 I started to be President of Norwegian Deaf History Society, and as member-at-large of DHI Bureau from 2009. I worked as lecturer / teacher in the field of Deaf culture and history at Ål Folk High School of the Deaf since 1994 to 2012.

Of my interest I have been conducting a research project "Deaf Migration from Norway to North America" for many years.

Ambitions for DHI: To ensure that DHI is a good information service by a help from their website and make a strong platform for members where they can easier get contact and share with each other about different topics in Deaf history.
